While I am Waiting for a Breakthrough

Empowering boys in juvenile prison without adequate resources and funding isn’t easy. However, my trust on God to provide gives me hope and faith. Here’s what is happening while I am waiting for a breakthrough.

This has been a very difficult month for me. Not only is my mom’s recovery from illness draining our finances and energy, sustaining Lifesong Kenya has been hard. As I am writing, I have run out finances and don’t know what will happen for the rest of this month.

This being so, I have lots of reasons to feel low and discouraged.

Yesterday, we spent half of the day in hospital visiting our mom. It is evident she is improving. However, it is an expensive process that is weighing us down. After rushing home, we barely made it on time for Bible Study that was happening at our house.

During the Bible Study my wife and I mentioned our need for a breakthrough for our mom and prison program. The later is not an easy prayer request to make because it has taken 7 long years! As Emily Akoth, a member of our Advisory Board, led the prayers, a song came to my mind.

Allow me to share the lyrics of the song towards the end of this post, okay?

During the Bible Study, I was nodding off in sleep. I was worn out both physically and mentally. A few weeks ago, I discovered I had lost content I had created between April and July. The content was about the amount of work the Lifesong Kenya staff had done for the past 3 months.

Losing it just like that was a very heavy blow to my confidence. On top of this, my failure to secure adequate funding for Lifesong Kenya. As the Bible Study came to an end at 10:20 pm, I was realized that I was finally going to bed.

Just then, Grace Okinyi, a member of our Bible Study made a statement that scattered my plans. We treat and consider every member of our Bible Study as family. This being so, there was no way I was going to say ‘no’ and go to bed.

“James, are you giving me a lift home or I call for an Uber?” she asked.

“No way you’re ordering an Uber,” I said. “You know we cannot allow that to happen!” I added.

As I drove her home, I shared my faith about God’s faithfulness and provision. I know things are not working out as they should. But God’s provision and faithfulness supersedes what my eyes can see. While it is true that we need finances to take care of allowances, I believe that God has this in full control.

Something Beautiful Happened On Way Back Home

Deuteronomy 31:6

On my way back home, I cranked the volume of the car music player and sang on top of my voice. Immediately, the atmosphere changed. I took my foot from off the pedal and relaxed. This enabled me to drive at 5 km/hour so I could continue praising and worshiping God.

God took my worries for funding and resources. He reassured me of His divine provision. My heart overflowed with gratitude, joy and peace. I realized that as long as I remained true to my calling and trusted God, He is taking care of my personal needs.

In fact, He promises to never leave or forsake me. What’s more, He promises that He will accomplish that which he started doing in my life. Much as it is taking too long (in my eyes) God is actively at work.

Here’s what God’s Word proclaims

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

In conclusion

I had promised to share the lyrics of the song that is becoming my favourite anthem. I hope this will encourage to remain strong in your faith, trust and believe in God. Feel free to follow this link to the song and let me know how it has blessed you.

What my eyes can’t see, I still believe
Everything, spoken to me
There’s no word, that can come back void
I will trust the report of the Lord

God is not a man that He should lie
Every need He will supply
So I will wait, I will not be moved
I believe, I believe, I will trust in You

While I’m waiting, I’m getting stronger
My faith is rising, and I will run on
While I’m waiting, I’m lifting up on wings as eagles
I believe, I will trust in You
