The 2026 first quarter at Lifesong Kenya has seen our exceptional young men go back to school and join other learners. Here’s the full report!
The first quarter of the year often signals a new beginning at Lifesong Kenya! It is time for exceptional young men either staying at our Halfway House or staying with their families to go back to school and join other learners. It is also the time for us to resume our Community Outreach Program where we engage boys in reading, life skills and playing football (soccer). The other activity that is dear to our hearts is reaching to boys at Kamiti Youth Correctional Training Centre where we help juveniles who are in conflict with the law to learn skills and reconcile with their families, the police and individuals they are in conflict with in the community.
Thanks to your generous giving we have been able to resume our programs and daily activities at our Halfway House in Ngong, Saturday and school holiday activities at Osupuko Village, Wednesday at Kamiti Youth Correctional Training Centre and Thursday at Kimuka Comprehensive School where we are supporting our boys and their families.
The First Quarter Full Report
Currently, there are five boys staying at out Halfway House. During their stay, the boys receive supports to:-
- attend local school
- have a place to call home
- have warm meals and clothing
- receive medical and aftercare support
Providing the above support enables the boys to recover from the trauma that comes with abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence. When schools are closed, the boys learn Spanish, Tailoring, Coding and engage in hikes, camping and other outdoor activities.
Part of their duties and responsibilities includes:-
- washing and ironing their clothes
- helping in meal preparation
- finishing homework
- cycling and bicycle repair training
- playing football, and
- feeding our chicken and dairy goats
On Saturdays evening, boys from the community gather at our Halfway House to watch football. This helps our boys to learn from elite footballers from across the top performing leagues. Through this they learn the science behind performing at the top level that requires focus, resilience and smart goal setting.
Driving and Cycling to Our Programs
We either cycle or use our car as means of transport to access our project location. We drive to and from Kamiti Youth Correctional Training Centre, which is about 50 km from our offices. A typical juvenile prison activity entails the following activities:-
- weekly sessions with the boys
- training in personal branding
- Co-Active coaching to prepare for prison exit
- calling and visiting families and individuals the boys have wronged Â
- visiting schools to verify background information
Since Osupuko is only 10 km away, we use our bicycles as a mean of transport. Cycling is a great way to bond with boys who are staying at our Halfway House. Being on our bicycles is always a great time to breathe in the fresh air, explore the outdoors and gain physical fitness. As a result, cycling is like killing two birds with one stone. First, we are able to save on transport costs. Secondly, we are able to improve the well-being of our staff, volunteers and our boys.

Appeal for Your Monthly Support
Like most community-based organizations, Lifesong Kenya hugely depends on generosity of wonderful individuals like you. Join our growing number of individual donors who give on a monthly basis to support our work. Your monthly giving enables us to cater for expenses that includes:-
- Dry food like rice, beans, flour, cooking oil, etc
- Clothes
- School fees, uniform, lunch and other school supplies
- Transport to our programs
- Animal feeds for dairy goats and chicken (we are planning to re-introduce rabbits and egg laying poultry)
- Allowances for staff, volunteers and interns
Final Thoughts
Your monthly giving is what keeps the dreams of our boys and exceptional young men alive. It is the engine that drives the vision and mission at Lifesong Kenya. Your giving enables us to pay rent Halfway House, keep boys in school, visit juvenile prison and support mothers.
