Route Mapping is Over

Route mapping is over and now comes the interesting part. Find out what else happened.

Route Mapping is Over
Our team takes a photo with Rev Anthony Makena, Senior Pastor CITAM Nakuru

I am at the shop. However, I am so tired and feeling like going back home so I can take time off and rest. I should be coming from Kisumu today, after finishing mapping out the route our cycling team will follow in December. However, the exercise ended much earlier than I had anticipated.

Not only were we able to finish exercise within two days, we ended up getting overwhelming response to our request for help. Our mission was to find churches, hotels and businesses that would offer us the following:-

  • a place to pitch our tents
  • dinner and breakfast for cyclists and support staff
  • contributions towards our half way cycle fundraising event

We made a stop at the Burch’s Resort Naivasha, CITAM Nakuru, AIC Kericho and finally at the CITAM Kisumu Church. Save for the CITAM churches, who offered to take care of our dinner, breakfast and offer us a place to pitch our tent and take a shower, the rest agreed that we will pitch our tents during our stopover.

Route Mapping is Over

After finishing the route mapping, we returned to Nairobi knowing the fun part had just begun. Our Half Way Cycle team begun plotting practice sessions. With time, I came to discover that cycling to Kisumu from Nairobi wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.

Not only had I not cycled more than 30 km, I was now going to start cycling 150 km per week! Well, the route mapping is over, and now comes the interesting part!

“One of the most important days of my life, was when I learned to ride a bicycle.”
