Each goat represents a chance to learn valuable skills and to build a sustainable future. We are already seeing the positive impact firsthand. The promise of fresh, nutrient-rich goat milk is a much welcome addition to our sustainability plan. Our long-term goal is to add value to goat milk. By creating creamy yogurt, flavorful cheese we will be able to nourish our boys and generate income for Lifesong Kenya.

Our aim is to provide shelter, care, skills and opportunities boys need to thrive. That is why we are incredibly excited to share the progress of our ongoing dairy goat project!

Our dairy goat project is much more than just raising animals. It is about nurturing hope, fostering self-sufficiency, and creating a sustainable future for both our boys and Lifesong Kenya. We aim to provide nutritious milk for consumption and generate income through the sale of milk products. According to The Organic Farmer, Kenya’s dairy sub-sector contributes about 8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with an annual milk production of 3.43 billion litres (297 million from goats).

Why Dairy Goat Project?

Dairy goats offer a multitude of benefits:

  • Nutritional value

According to nutrition experts, goat milk is rich in essential nutrients. This provides vital vitamins and minerals for growth and development. As a result, this will be valuable at our Halfway House.

  • Skill development

Looking after goats teaches our boys valuable skills in animal husbandry. By feeding goats, our boys are learning responsible farming practices and business management.

  • Income Generation

The sale of goat milk and its byproducts will create a sustainable source of income for our boys. The rest of the income will be channeled into supporting the ongoing needs of the Halfway House.

  • Meaningful work

The project provides meaningful work for our boys, thereby fostering a sense of purpose and responsibility. By taking care of our goats, our boys are able to learn initiative and taking responsibility.

  • Fresh goat milk, available for consumption and sale
  • Goat milk yogurt, a creamy and healthy treat
  • Goat milk cheese, a versatile and flavorful product

The Impact So Far:

We have seen a very positive impact so far. The boys are enjoying learning how to take care of goats. The promise of fresh milk has been a wonderful addition to their diet that has uplifted the spirits of our boys. We have also visited several farms to see how other farmers are reaping benefits from rearing dairy goats.

How You Can Help Us Grow

To expand our project and maximize its impact, we need your support! We are currently seeking donations to purchase:

  • Chaff Cutter

This essential machine will help us to efficiently process fodder for the goats and ensure they receive a nutritious and consistent diet.

  • Four More Female Goats

We have enough room that calls for expansion of our herds. This will increase our capacity for milk production and allow us to better serve our boys and generate more income.

Your generous contribution will directly support the growth of our dairy goat project, empowering our boys and creating a brighter future for Lifesong Kenya.

How to Donate
